Background
What is Ethylene Oxide?
Ethylene oxide (EO or ETO) uses a gas diffusion method to kill any microbes present in a product.
Sterility occurs when Ethylene oxide gas destroys microbial DNA. There are four key variables that must be managed at simultaneously during the process:
- Gas concentration
- Temperature
- Relative Humidity
- Exposure Duration
All items sold must be sealed in gas-permeable packaging that allows oxygen to access all areas of the product notwithstanding the presence of a sterile barrier.
Purpose
What is Ethylene Oxide used for?
EO can be used to sterilize a wide range of materials that can't be sterilized with other methods. Products that are often made with ethylene oxide are, but not limited to:
- Custom Medical Kits + Trays
- Catheters
- Esmark Bandages
- Surgical Instruments
